Pupils collaborate to create perfect harmony

A musical celebration of Aberdeenshire’s rich and varied landscapes is taking place on Tuesday (Tuesday, June 5).

Aberdeenshire Council and charity Drake Scotland have been working with the four special schools in Aberdeenshire on a project called Hameward - the tales of our dubby beets by Abigail Sinar.

It is a showcase of what they have achieved. Those attending will see a musical journey where the pupils have explored using their ‘dubby beets (muddy boots)’ from mountain to sea, through field and town, come rain or shine, as they travel the weel-kent road…hame.

Drake Music has been working with the pupils from the schools as well as students from Aberdeen City Music School. The year-long programme has been funded by Creative Scotland and is being delivered by Aberdeenshire Council.

Susan Whyte, Aberdeenshire Council’s Youth Music Initiative Co-ordinator, said: “This is a great example of what can be achieved with specialist music educators working in schools and of the wonderful collaboration with able bodied pupils coming together to work alongside those with additional support needs.”

The free event is taking place at 12:45pm on Tuesday, June 5 at Haddo House, Methlick, Ellon, AB41 7EQ.
