Learning Organisation process continues at pace

Date Published: 06 December 2021

What a busy few months we have had behind the scenes since the launch of the Learning Organisation (LO) programme. We had a fantastic endorsement of the LO programme from senior managers attending the Leadership Forum in October. The Learning Organisation Steering Group met again this month and you should hear more from the group soon. Mike Healy has been appointed as the Programme Manager for the Learning Organisation programme. He will be leading and working with various groups to get things underway.

The Learning Lights, a group of non-management volunteers, has grown and now has members from most services keen to get involved. The first meeting of the Learning Lights took place on Thursday, November 25. Great to see the energy, enthusiasm and commitment shown by members who are all volunteers. Getting to know each other was important, as was the informal nature of the conversation, which is so important to engagement and involvement.

We will be forming a new group, Learning Levers: a group of interested and enthusiastic volunteer managers, keen to provide leverage to help Learning Lights develop and implement their ideas for improving learning across the council. They will also provide their own input regarding the development of the six areas of focus (Campaign, Culture, Leadership, Career, Learning Resources, Technology) needed to underpin our development as a Learning Organisation,

We will be looking at producing videos, webinars, and workshops to create better awareness, and adopting a properly validated questionnaire to monitor the progress of our adoption of a learning organisation culture. In addition, a SharePoint page will provide a single point of contact for all to tell their stories and to hear updates on progress.

There is a lot to be done and we are interested in hearing from people who have an interest in this work.  So, if you are keen to shape the way you, your team, your service, or the whole organisation learns to adapt to change, and you would like to be involved, contact Mike Healy by emailing mike.healy@aberdeenshire.gov.uk.
