Does your document meet accessibility standards?

Date Published: 09 September 2020

From Wednesday, 23rd September 2020, documents published on the council website (this includes all public facing websites and systems) must meet accessibility standards. This is so they can be used by as many people as possible, including those with disabilities.

Meeting accessibility standards is a legislative requirement as per the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. These regulations are not only about PDFs, they are in place to make all elements of public sector websites easier to use for everyone. They are enforced by the Government Digital Service (GDS) and the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Our web (UX) team have produced guidance to help steer you through what is expected. You can go onto the Arcadia page here and look for the Guidance on PDF usage document on the right: https://aberdeenshire.sharepoint.com/sites/Arcadia/tools-and-resources/Pages/corporate-website.aspx
