Audit Scotland now onsite for Best Value Assurance Review

​The local team, which are already based at Woodhill House, has now been joined by other colleagues from the wider Audit Scotland team and will be on site until the end of March.

Audit Scotland have confirmed the main themes they will focus on during the process, these include:

• Vision and leadership
• Governance and accountability
• Effective use of resources – people, assets, IT and data, financial, strategy, procurement, performance management
• Partnership and collaborative working
• Working with communities
• Sustainability
• Fairness and equality
• Performance, outcomes and improvement

The team from Audit Scotland will begin by interviewing a variety of councillors, senior officers and partner organisations. There will be combination of desk-based review, interviews, observations and engagement with stakeholders.

Best Value is about ensuring there is good governance and effective management of resources, with a focus on improvement, to deliver the best possible outcomes to the public. The duty of Best Value applies to all public bodies across Scotland and is a statutory requirement for councils. Regulator Audit Scotland will be assessing all 32 local authorities nationally.
