Aberdeen City Region ready to showcase strengths to global industry

Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire councils are once again collaborating to provide local businesses the opportunity to connect with a global industry network of more than 50,000 attendees at Offshore Europe.

Taking place at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre (AECC), the biennial SPE Offshore Europe exhibition returns to Aberdeen from 5 – 8 September 2017. Aberdeenshire Council’s head of Economic Development and Protective Services, Belinda Miller, commented: "The Aberdeen City Region is home to a world-leading supply chain within the energy sector, with many pioneering technologies, global companies and a highly skilled workforce. Aberdeenshire Council remains committed in its support of this vital sector, as we continuously strive to anchor the knowledge and expertise we house in the region here and retain our position as a global energy hub through collaboration and the creation of opportunities.

"A key element in this piece of work is shouting about our regional capabilities, with Offshore Europe providing the ideal platform to do this. The Aberdeen City & Shire pavilion enables local companies to access the global marketplace on their doorstep, whilst having the event in Aberdeen allows delegates and exhibitors alike to witness first-hand the strengths of our industry, as well as the multi-million pounds of investment underway in connectivity, infrastructure and large-scale developments, all of which put us in a highly competitive position to secure business and continue to lead the global energy sector for years to come."

Councillor Jenny Laing, Co-Leader of Aberdeen City Council, said: “Our worldwide reputation as a global energy hub remains strong, and oil and gas continues to be a key priority for Aberdeen businesses.

“The global energy businesses operating in Aberdeen have provided a level of expertise and knowledge that has allowed the energy sector supply chain to grow and the city to flourish, and we are now starting to see an emerging entrepreneurial spirit and innovative approach among those committed to developing innovative new technologies to maximise the recovery of the industry.

“The city is taking great strides to future-proof the region via a £1 billion transformational capital programme, designed to make a positive impact on our region and its economy.”
