Kemnay nursery praised in inspection

Inspectors have praised staff at Kemnay Primary School nursery for their approach to encouraging healthy eating amongst children.

The review also commended the nursery staff for completing annual child protection training, ensuring they are aware of the correct procedures to follow if concerned about the welfare of a child. The Care Inspectorate found the quality of environment as “very good” and the quality of care was “good” when they visited during an unannounced review on Monday, December 18.

The report said: “Snack was a positive learning experience for the children. The children enjoyed helping to prepare vegetables and fruit and chatted with staff who encouraged good manners at all times. To help keep the children safe and well, we discussed staff ensuring the children use a spoon or tongs.”

Kemnay Primary School nursery provides learning and childcare to a maximum of 30 children aged two to those about to start primary school.

There are 152 primary schools, 87 nurseries and 17 secondary schools in Aberdeenshire. At the end of the 2016/17 financial year there were more than 20,000 primary school pupils and over 14,000 secondary school pupils.
