Three schools aim to be on song in national concert band final

Three Aberdeenshire schools will be hoping to hit the right notes when they perform in a national final of the Scottish Concert Band Festival this weekend (Sat, Mar 17).

The South Central Aberdeenshire Music Centre Youth Band, Mackie Academy Concert Band and Portlethen Academy Concert Band all excelled at the Aberdeen Regional Festival last November. The South Central Aberdeenshire Music Centre Youth Band and Mackie Academy Concert Band were awarded a Gold Plus Awards whilst Portlethen Academy Concert Band received a Gold Award.

Mackie and Portlethen Academies will be conducted by Sarah Gove whilst Bruce Wallace will lead the South Central Aberdeenshire Music Centre Youth Band when all the schools compete for the national title in Perth.

The schools will be judged on rhythm, melody, tuning and intonation, articulation, dynamics, communication, musicality and interpretation and choice and balance of programme.
