Area Committee approves Banff Academy technology upgrade

An upgrade of a school technical department has been approved by the Banff and Buchan Area Committee.

The work will result in improvements to the technological workshop at Banff Academy, seeing the facilities modernised and made more accessible.

Cllr Gillian Owen, Aberdeenshire Council Education and Children’s Services Committee chair, said: “Technology is vitally important for sustaining our future so I am delighted that this fantastic improved workshop will give the budding technology experts at Banff Academy a state-of-the-art facility in which to study.

“Aberdeenshire Council has a great track record in investing in schools and this is further evidence of our aim to provide the best possible environment for children and young people to excel whilst learning.”

Committee vice chair, Cllr Mark Findlater, said: “By investing in our schools we aim to create places of learning where pupils can thrive and enjoy their studies. Teachers too will revel in the modern and improved working environment. This helps create happy schools where everyone performs to their maximum.”

The construction is likely to start on Tuesday, July 17 and is due to finish on Thursday, October 25. The project will be funded by the council. The committee approved the plans on Tuesday, March 27.
