Three Forums, One Voice marks 'celebration of recovery' at third annual support event

The three community forums that support the work of Aberdeenshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership have held their third annual event for those in recovery and their families.

The ‘Three Forums, One Voice’ event, held in Aberdeen on Saturday (Sat, Jun 16), saw around 80 people come together for a series of creative, leisure and learning activities in what was billed as ‘a celebration of recovery’.

It was funded by the North, Central and South Aberdeenshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership Community Forums.

Activities included yoga, drumming, mindfulness, writing and watercolour, jewellery making, an open mic session and singing.

And a key focus of the day was on raising awareness of the anti-opioid naloxone, which can be used to treat the effects of overdose. Almost 30 people took part in the 15-minute training on the day, with participants being provided with a life-saving kit.

Stuart Bowie, co-chair of the Central Aberdeenshire Alcohol & Drug Partnership Community Forum, said: “This year’s event followed the theme of ‘movement’ and offered the chance for those in recovery and their families to enjoy a day of activities in a safe and supportive environment.

“For us it’s an opportunity to celebrate recovery and challenge the stigma that can surround it, as well as provide training and support with in a relaxed environment.

“The forums always welcome new faces at their meetings, so we’d be pleased to hear from anybody who would like to get involved.”
