Laurencekirk nursery praised in inspection

Inspectors have praised staff at Laurencekirk nursery for making children feel safe, nurtured and included.

The review by the Care Inspectorate also commended nursery staff for forging links with the community, which has seen cakes being made by the children for coffee mornings and performing a nativity play where residents of a local care home were invited to attend, which has built self-esteem and emotional resilience.

Laurencekirk nursery received “very good” ratings for quality of care and support, and quality of staffing. Quality of environment and quality of management and leadership were not assessed when the inspection took place in November.

The report said: “The staff team were well trained and highly motivated. They demonstrated a sound understanding of meeting individual needs. They were responsive to all the children’s needs, including nappy changing. They used skilful questioning to maximise children’s own learning potential. This enabled the child to freely extend their learning and use higher order thinking strategies to achieve potential outcomes.”

Laurencekirk nursery provides learning and childcare to children aged three to five. There are 152 primary schools, 87 nurseries and 17 secondary schools in Aberdeenshire.
