Turriff Swimming Pool and Gateway Community Centre to be upgraded

Turriff Swimming Pool and the Gateway Community Centre will be closed for essential maintenance during the first three weeks in April.

Both facilities will be close during the afternoon on Saturday, March 30, so that preparations for the work can take place.

The work, which will rectify an ongoing issue with the chimney flue, will start on Monday, April 1.

John Harding, Aberdeenshire Council’s Head of Lifelong Learning and Leisure said: “The decision to close was not taken lightly and it is regrettable that this closure will result in the pool being inaccessible during the school holiday period. It was felt however that this time would have the least impact on groups who depend on access to our facilities, including playgroups and those attending swimming lessons.

“Whilst I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused, I hope that the community notice the benefits once the work is complete.”

There are alternative swimming pools available in Huntly or Inverurie whilst there are community facilities at the Deveron Community and Sports Centre. Turriff Sports Centre will remain open whilst the upgrades are carried out.

Live Life Aberdeenshire has already updated frequent users of both facilities that are likely to be impacted and have been supplied with alternative arrangements where possible.

Regular progress updates will be made available through the Swimming Pools Facebook page and the LiveLifeAberdeenshire website https://www.livelifeaberdeenshire.org.uk/
