Area Committee agrees sale of former school building

Members of the Banff and Buchan Area Committee have approved the sale of the former New Aberdour School building.

The school building has been bought by a developer. New Aberdour Primary School closed in 2009 and the building was used by community groups thereafter.

Council officers will work with the community groups using the site to explore alternative options following their relocation from the building.

It is expected that the legal process of transferring the building to the new owners will be complete within the next three months.

Cllr Andy Kille, Banff and Buchan Area Committee chair, said: “Many people living in New Aberdour and the nearby towns will have fond memories of the school, but I very much hope that the new site will benefit the community in a different way.”

Banff and Buchan Area Committee vice chair, Cllr Michael Roy, said: “Aberdeenshire Council will do their upmost to ensure that the community groups impacted by the sale of the New Aberdour School building will be found alternatives as soon as practicable.”
