Building Standards team introduces new Fast Assessment Service for domestic projects

Many people carrying out home improvement projects will have come into contact with Aberdeenshire Council’s Building Standards Service, which has a new fast track system for smaller scale work.

The new Fast Assessment Enquiry (FASE) Service will deal more effectively with Building Warrant applications for domestic work with an estimated cost of less than £10,000.

This includes projects such as:

• erection of garden walls or fence to a dwelling house
• provision of patio or French doors to a dwelling house
• installation of roof lights to an attic store
• minor alterations to the layout of a dwelling house where it requires building warrant approval

The new service will allow certain specified works to be instantly assessed for compliance with the Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations 2004 and associated Technical Handbooks.

This will allow officers to approve applications quickly and works to commence quickly.

The aim is to issue the required Building Warrant within five working days of application submission, providing all the information has been received and is compliant.

Building Standards Team Leader, Jeremy Mitchell, said: “The team is looking forward to providing this additional service, which will allow customers to progress small domestic projects quickly.

“We hope this will make a difference to them and are keen to get feedback on the process to help us improve even further.”

More information on how to submit a FASE can be found on the Aberdeenshire Council website
