Inspectors highlight excellent care and support to children at Strichen School Nursery

Inspectors have praised staff at Strichen School Nursery for providing excellent care and support to children.

The nursery was rated “Excellent” for quality of care and support and “Very Good” for quality of management and leadership following a visit by the Care Inspectorate in June.

The inspection report said: “The service provided excellent care and support to children. Communication between staff, children and families resulted in productive working partnership. Staff demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of children’s care needs, preferences and personalities.”

Cllr Gillian Owen, Aberdeenshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Committee chair, said: “Many congratulations to head teacher Andrew Jenkins and his team at the nursery.

“I am pleased to see that inspectors acknowledged innovations such as the learning stickers and the highly creative ‘Star of the Week’ posters. I really hope this positive feedback encourages staff to be as bold and imaginative as possible and to continue the excellent standards of care and support to children in their care.”

Committee vice chair, Cllr Mark Findlater, said: “I too would like to commend all those involved at Strichen Nursery for this well-deserved inspection. Over the years, performance has remained high in inspections which demonstrates a well-run nursery providing an excellent environment for children. I am delighted that the quality of management and staff was recognised by the inspectors.”

Inspectors also praised the quality of play which allowed children to use their imaginations and ask staff questions; the confidence gained by children as a result of progress in literacy and the involvement with the local community as there have been regular planned visits to the library and housing for older people.
