Inspectors praise teamwork in inspection of Turriff Primary and Nursery

Teamwork shown by staff and management at Turriff Primary and Nursery was just one of many positive aspects’ inspectors acknowledged in a review of the school.

The Care Inspectorate ranked Turriff Primary and Nursery School as “very good” for both quality of care and support and quality of staffing when they visited in September.

The report said: “Although some staff were new to the service, they worked well as a team. The management team and staff were committed and highly motivated to provide the best early learning and childcare to the children attending the nursery. Staff demonstrated their ongoing commitment to achieve ongoing improvements. Staff told us they had regular staff meetings to discuss practice and developments. They had attended in-service training, for example the use of best practice guidance documents.”

Cllr Gillian Owen Aberdeenshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Committee chair said: “Many congratulations to the children and staff on this great inspection. I was particularly pleased to read the positive comments in a questionnaire carried out before the inspection. To see parents expressing delight about their children enjoying their education and the praise staff have received in the feedback is both absolutely fantastic and a testament of a well-run school and nursery.”

Head teacher Fiona Eaton said: “I am extremely proud of our nursery team and early years practitioners who have been ably led by Depute Head Teacher Claire Smith to ensure a safe and happy environment for children to develop and learn. The team is delighted with the “very good” grades awarded and are committed to raising standards further.”

The previous inspection in May 2017 rated the school as “good” in all categories: quality of care and support, quality of environment, quality of staffing and quality of management and leadership.
