Kinellar Primary to open for new school term on Wednesday

Working with the community and neighbouring schools Aberdeenshire Council is pleased to say Kinellar Primary School will open for the new school term on Wednesday as scheduled following the fire last week.

The nursery however will be closed on Wednesday but open on Thursday at Kinellar Community Hall.

Part of the building serving Nursery and Primary 1 classes was damaged as a result of the fire on Thursday night.

A thorough clean of the building took place today and more cleaning will take place tomorrow. Heating, water and fire alarms have also been tested ahead of the pupils returning to the school.

Head of Education Resources and Performance Craig Clement said: “This has been a remarkable effort by all involved and I would like to thank those who work in the school, employees from across the council, neighbouring schools and the local community for their help in making sure we can open on Wednesday. Considering all the other issues the council is dealing with at the moment, to get the school ready in time for the new term was a fantastic effort by all concerned. We have also arranged a temporary home for the nursery which will be available from Thursday.

“Obviously we are deeply disappointed that this appears to have been started deliberately and urge anyone with information to contact the police.”
