Aberdeenshire councillors recognise Workers Memorial Day

Aberdeenshire Provost, Cllr Hamish Vernal, led a tribute at the full meeting of Aberdeenshire Council for Workers’ Memorial Day, taking place today (28th April 2016).

Workers Memorial Day is commemorated throughout the world and is officially recognised by the UK Government. Established by trade unions, the movement is united in creating safer workplaces.

Provost Vernal said: “Commemorating Workers’ Memorial Day can be an important part of promoting safety and honoring those who have given their lives to the job.

“Our staff go to work and expect to return home safe and well each day. We all have a responsibility to ensure this happens, that we positively promote safe working conditions and highlight areas where improvements can be made.”

A number of events are planned across the UK to recognise National Memorial Day.
