"Live" exercise to install Stonehaven Flood Protection Barriers

An exercise to practice flood barrier deployment will be carried out in Stonehaven later this month.

The "live" event will see members of Aberdeenshire Council's roads team install the barriers at four locations in the town on Wednesday, November 23.

Some temporary road closures and prohibitions of waiting will be in force over the course of the day.

It is a chance to train the front line staff who would be called upon to deploy the barriers, should they be necessary.

The opportunity will also be used to check the condition of the equipment and effect repairs or replacement if required.

If the barriers are deployed for real, as they were during Storm Frank at the start of the year, weather conditions are likely to be very poor and it's also likely to be dark.

The daytime training exercise will give the team useful experience of the protective systems.

The following roads will be closed 9am-5pm:

U71K DUNNOTTAR AVENUE

(From the Green Bridge to A957 Dunnottar Avenue)

U161K CARRON TERRACE

(From jct with Arduthie Street to jct with Cameron Street)

U161K ARBUTHNOTT PLACE

(From outside No. 19 to jct with High Street)

Site notices will be erected in due course indicating the temporary restriction to traffic and the alternative routes.

Waiting on a section of Arbuthnott Place will be prohibited for the duration of the exercise.
