New Ellon Household Waste and Recycling Centre to open to the public

A new facility allowing residents to responsibly recycle household items will open in Ellon on Friday (June 9).

Aberdeenshire Council will open the new Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) at the town’s Balmacassie Industrial Estate following a temporary closure period due to relocation of its former centre.

The Council moved the facility to a new site within Balmacassie as the land it previously sat on was sold to boost the growth of craft beer company, BrewDog, which had premises next door.

The new HWRC, which is situated between Tesco and Power Jacks, will be open from 9am until 5pm, seven days per week allowing residents of Ellon and the surrounding area to recycle large household items, glass, textiles and a range of other materials.

An additional evening opening will occur on Tuesdays from 5pm until 8pm and will run until Tuesday, September 26.

Sue Horrobin, Waste Manager, said: “We’re delighted to open our new HWRC in Ellon. The facility will help residents continue to responsibly dispose of any unwanted household goods and a range of other materials, in turn helping us move towards the Scottish Government’s target of 60% recycling by 2020.

“Our entire team would like to thank all users of the facilities in Ellon for their patience and understanding during the short closure period which has allowed us to safely move equipment before opening this new and improved site.”
