Join Callum Beattie at a gig in a library

Alford Library will be the venue for the first pop concert of its type in Scotland.

Emerging Scottish popstar Callum Beattie is going to perform in Aberdeenshire as part of an initiative to encourage younger people aged between 14 and 25 to visit libraries.

Aberdeenshire Council is working with Get It Loud In Libraries, a project which combines libraries and music with the aim of persuading more young people to spend time in libraries, to host the first gig of this type in Scotland.

Cllr Gillian Owen, Aberdeenshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Committee chair, said: “I am delighted Alford Library has been chosen as the first venue in Scotland to host a gig of this type arranged in partnership with such a worthwhile initiative.

“Get It Loud In Libraries not only helps promote young musical talent but also encourages younger people to spend time in their local libraries, what a fantastic idea. I would like to welcome Callum Beattie to Aberdeenshire. I hope he enjoys his time in Marr and returns to this picturesque part of the world very soon.”

Committee Vice chair, Cllr Mark Findlater, said: “A pop concert in a library, what a great idea! Aberdeenshire Council Libraries are innovative and imaginative and this is another example of their approach. Libraries are not the first place people think of to host a pop concert but Alford Library should be a great setting to see a rising star like Callum Beattie in a relaxed and informal environment.

“The bairns from the local schools will be part of the planning team and have also volunteered to help out on the night at the event. This is going to be a music gig for young folk made possible by young folk. Good on you.”

Stewart Parsons, Get It Loud In Libraries Creative Director, said: “It’s long been an ambition to bring 'Get It Loud In Libraries' to Scotland. We are delighted to be amplifying all Alford Library has got with the Callum Beattie show. Showcasing hot new artists in towns bands don't normally play is part of our ethos. The fact Callum is Scottish makes this a special gig for us.”

Callum Beattie, who’s latest single Man Behind the Sun is out now, will be performing at Alford Library on Saturday, November 18. Tickets cost £7.50 on the door and £8.20 in advance. There are 150 tickets available on a first come, first served basis. To buy a ticket please visit http://callumbeattie.co.uk/live.
