Haughs masterplan revealed as work begins to develop potential projects

Community views on how the Haughs in Turriff could be better used are now available, with opportunities for future developments already being explored.

The Haughs Redevelopment Partnership ran an online survey last year on how the community space is currently used, and the features and activities people might like to see in the future.

More than 700 people responded, including Turriff residents and those that have visited the town or the Haughs previously.

Since then, a number of priority projects have been identified from the feedback, including improvements to the boating pond, playpark, and showground area; the installation of lighting and signage; and the possible creation of a catering facility.

The redevelopment group – which includes councillors, council officers and community representatives – will now begin developing project proposals and investigate possible funding options.

Formartine Area Manager Elaine Brown said: “It is fantastic to see such a good response from the wider community in relation to the proposals set out in the masterplan.

“The overall aim is to enhance and redevelop the Haughs area to encourage more people to use the area, and to improve the existing facilities.

“We hope the community will continue to support the work of the redevelopment group and perhaps get involved in the projects as they are developed.”

The full feedback from the survey can be viewed on the Haughs Redevelopment Partnership Facebook page, and copies are available from The Gateway Centre, Turriff, or by emailing formartine@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

To date, the Haughs Redevelopment Partnership has already supported a series of local events, including a charity fireworks display, a vintage rally, and a winter event; arranged for the installation of additional seating; and worked with the council to host a running event.
