Do you ken your Doric?

Participants are being sought for a Call my Bluff-style game with a difference. There is bound to be amusement and befuddlement aplenty as contestants seek to unravel the derivations of Doric words and phrases borrowing the format from the popular BBC quiz.

The game forms part of the Across the Grain Festival, a month-long celebration of local culture taking place at a range of Aberdeenshire venues which takes place in October.

The hunt is on for teams of three to sign up so that they can showcase their Doric language knowledge in September in the lead up to the festival where teams will compete in local heats. The winning teams will then compete against each other at the final in October where one team will be announced Doric Call My Bluff champions 2019.

Live Life Aberdeenshire Libraries will be providing all of the words with brief definitions, it is up to each individual if they want to elaborate on any of the definitions we provide.  So, if you have a love of the Doric dialect and would like to take part in this quiz contact your local library. If you are an individual and would like to take part, the library service can find you a team to join locally so please still get in touch. It is free to enter and open to all ages.

The final will be taking place at the Aden Theatre in Aden Country Park, Mintlaw, between 7pm and 9pm on Thursday, October 10 as part of Across the Grain.

You can find the contact details on the Live Life Aberdeenshire website https://www.livelifeaberdeenshire.org.uk/libraries/

The closing date for team or individual submissions is Monday, August 19.
