Road restrictions and closures for Portsoy town centre for essential road resurfacing

Essential resurfacing of the A98 (Aird Street) in Portsoy next week will mean temporary road closures, restrictions and diversions around the town centre as the road is improved for users.

Although the works will cause some unavoidable disruption for the local community and for traffic travelling onwards through Portsoy, efforts will be made to ensure that traffic is directed as efficiently as possible.

Preparatory construction work, including the replacement of service covers, will take place from Monday, September 23, with the use of traffic lights and temporary waiting restrictions.

The resurfacing work itself will require a full closure of Aird Street throughout the day over the weekend of September 28 and 29.

For traffic travelling from the west towards Banff and Fraserburgh, the easiest diversion will be to stay on the A96 at Fochabers, heading for Keith, and then take the A95 from Keith to Banff, adding only minimal time to your journey.

From Cullen, the B9018 road via Deskford to Keith will also be a signed diversion, although large goods vehicles must follow the Fochabers diversion outlined above.

The bus service through Portsoy will be reduced for the weekend, although buses will be running throughout the day. Further information on the bus timetable for the weekend can be found on the Stagecoach website.

Businesses within Portsoy will remain open throughout the closure and will be signposted for access. Access to properties will be maintained as far as possible and when safe to do so.

Resurfacing work can be affected by the weather or other unforeseen issues, therefore the dates indicated may be subject to change at short notice. Follow Aberdeenshire Roads on Twitter for the latest information @AbshireRoads
