Family learning opportunities coming up soon in Ellon
A series of family learning opportunities for people across the Ellon area is to be launched on Wednesday 9 October from 7pm at Ellon Academy Community Campus, with Aberdeenshire’s Head of Education, Vincent Docherty.
The event will provide an introduction on what’s meant by family learning, details of the calendar of events and information on how to register to attend. The event series will offer families the opportunity to take part in learning a variety of new skills together. These will include sessions on everything from online safety, to supporting your child’s early literacy, homework skills, building resilience, and even laughter yoga.
Cllr Gillian Owen, Chair of Aberdeenshire’s Education and Children’s Services Committee explained: "The teaching and community learning and development teams across Ellon have developed a cluster approach which has brought about greater collaborative working opportunities, and ideas like this fantastic new events series. The involvement and engagement of parents in their children's learning is a key element in raising attainment through support, help and encouragement given at home. This isn't about saying what anyone is already doing is wrong, simply building on what works and providing opportunities for families to learn new skills together."
Mr Docherty added: "Family learning happens all the time in everyday situations. This is about strengthening positive relationships within and between the family and school, and also improving community connections. Whether you would like to better understand digital learning, would like some advice on building positive relationships or just want to benefit from being part of this special community, I'd encourage as many parents and carers to come along as possible."
