Aberdeenshire's definitely got talent!

By day they provide essential services, advice and support to Aberdeenshire residents but for one evening they became stars of the stage in a fund-raising Aberdeenshire’s Got Talent competition.

A total of £1523.85 was raised for STV’s Children’s Appeal thanks to the event, which was organised by Aberdeenshire Council colleagues Andrew Stewart and Sally Davis, and took place on Friday, August 18 at Aberdeen Arts Centre.

The winner was June Cranna, of the council’s Business Services division. She won tickets to see Cabaret at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen and a tour of the STV studios.

Honourable mentions were made about ICT’s Nikki Sandhu, who dazzled the audience with her glittery salsa dancing, whilst Sam Gray, a drama teacher from Balmedie Primary School, moved the audience to tears with her performance of a song from Waitress which combined acting and singing. The evening was given a surreal Star Wars feel when Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers led the audience in some 1980s style dancing.

Reflecting on the evening, Andrew Stewart said: “I’ve never felt as proud to be a part of something as I was on Friday night. The acts were great and the audience supportive.

“Massive thanks to Aberdeen Performing Arts for providing us a venue; STV’s Children’s Appeal for their guidance; Aberdeenshire Council for their support and to our judges from Original 106 and STV and Lisa Lollipop.”

Aberdeenshire Council’s Chief Executive, Jim Savege, said: “Aberdeenshire’s Got Talent was a great example of our staff taking the initiative to arrange and participate in this great event. It was brilliant to see the staff working in a way that recognised that a healthy and well performing organisation – including the council – celebrates the different skills and talents people have, and has a heart. I had a great evening and I would like to congratulate all who took part.”
