Pupils lift spirits of residents in sheltered housing

Primary 5 and 6 pupils from St Fergus School have brought cheer to residents of a sheltered housing scheme during the lockdown in response to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The school children have written to residents who might be lonely to let them know what they have been doing and that they are thinking of them. Px Limited, from the neighbouring North Sea Midstream Partners (NSMP) Gas Terminal also sent them a bar of chocolate to help the residents keep their spirits up. The letters and bars of chocolate were delivered to the residents by px Limited maintaining the social distancing rules at all times and due to social distancing, handed to one of the residents through his flat window.

The initiative was carried out to raise awareness of mental health as the residents may be living in isolation, shielding or living on their own.

St Fergus School Headteacher Avril Sutherland explained: “Our primary is very much a community school so it is with great pleasure we have worked closely with px Limited in bringing some much needed joy for those residents living in sheltered accommodation during these challenging times.”

Pauline Robertson, St Fergus School Headteacher, added: “The pupils enjoyed writing the letters. It gave them an opportunity to learn and appreciate that there are those in isolation as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic who are lonely and need cheering up. It gave them a real appreciation of caring for their community and friends.”

Fiona Morrison, Business Services Team Leader at px limited, said: “Mental health is a topic that px as a company openly discusses and promotes.  It was lovely to help celebrate the “kindness” theme recently by working collaboratively with St Fergus primary school and bringing a little joy to the residents of Renouard Court in St Fergus.”
