A big thank you - Tour of Britain

Cllr Andy Kille is the Leader of Aberdeenshire Council and joined guests at the race start in Stonehaven. He said: “It has been months of planning, and at times through the pandemic we wondered when this would be allowed to really happen. But it did, and Aberdeenshire was the best location for the final stage. All the pictures online and the tv footage has served to show us off to an international audience and the atmosphere at the start in Stonehaven was just something else.

“It made me really proud of our region and I hope that cyclists and tourists alike have now got a pin in the map, marking this as a place to return to again and again. Also, if the race inspires a few people to get out on their bike again and explore Aberdeenshire then it has been a success.

“My thanks to everyone who made the finale so special.”

Cllr Kille was joined by two pupils from nearby schools in being the official race starters, waving the flags to get the teams on their way. He was joined by Corrie Hillock, a “cycling-mad” P5 from Bervie Primary and Ellie McLoughlin, a P7 from Catterline Primary who has been part of the ‘Tour of Catterline’ bike ride for many years.
