Latest resilience and service information – Storm Arwen

As of last night (Sun), SSEN restored all reported customer faults following Storm Arwen; around 135,000 homes in total.

If anybody still remains without power, they should call 105 as soon as possible. The latest information from SSEN can be found at www.facebook.com/ssencommunity/

Superintendent Murray Main is the chair of the Local Resilience Partnership. He said: “This is a fantastic announcement from SSEN. Our shared thanks to every person involved in restoring the power in what has been an extraordinary set of circumstances.

“Make no mistake, we are still responding to this incident. Support for those who need it within our communities continues, as we start moving closer towards and through the recovery phase. This announcement from SSEN does not mean we are standing down, our work continues to ensure we can move our communities back to business as usual, as soon as possible.”

With bad weather expected tomorrow (Tue), welfare arrangements are due to continue over the next few days, and the latest information can be found below.

The effort by staff from the various Local Resilience Partnership organisations and the military has been significant, with more than 1,000 Aberdeenshire Council volunteers involved in the response. The support provided by communities has also been fantastic.

Earlier today, Aberdeenshire Council chief executive Jim Savege recorded a message of thanks to all those involved in the response to Storm Arwen, and to highlight the ongoing recovery efforts.

Pam Milliken, Chief Officer of the Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership, has been absolutely blown away by the incredible work that teams across Health & Social Care have done to support communities during and after Storm Arwen. Pam has also recorded a message of thanks to all involved.

Weather/weather warnings

Yellow weather warnings for wind and remain in place for tomorrow (Tue). Heavy snow is expected to affect inland areas of Aberdeenshire, while strong winds are expected to affect the east coast of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

For the latest information on the warnings, visit www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/

This afternoon is expected to be largely dry and bright but there may be a few showers. Road surface temperatures are expected to fall below zero overnight, presenting the risk of ice. There may be some isolated wintry flurries over higher ground in the west this afternoon and evening.

Household waste collections

·         Additional trips to household recycling centres are currently permitted for those with vans/trailers where the 24-visit limit has already been used

·         Customers must still call the contact centre on 03456 081208 or email wasteadminsupportinverurie@aberdeenshire.gov.uk directly with the request so that additional bookings can be added

·         Additional food waste bags containing spoiled food from fridges and freezers due to loss of power should not be placed next to the food caddy, as this will potentially attract vermin

·         Householders should fill their food waste caddies – remembering to remove ALL packaging – and hold back any additional food waste for the next week as food caddies are uplifted on both general waste and recycling weeks. If this is not possible, additional waste can be placed in the general waste bin
