Public invited to celebrate a new beginning for Garioch Day Opportunities at open day

Service users at Garioch Day Opportunities are celebrating a new beginning by hosting an open day at the Pitscurry Project, which is part of the Pitscaple Environmental Project.

The open day, between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 28th May, is an opportunity for the public to visit the Pitscurry project and see the results of the work by service users and enjoy a variety of workshops.

As parking is limited shuttle busses will leave every half hour from the Harlaw Centre, Harlaw Road in Inverurie.

During the day musician and artist Jasmin Bray Triance will demonstrate how to make drums from recycled materials, including tin cans, plastic bottles and plant pots.

Between 10am and 12noon a wildlife ranger will talk about the insect inhabitants of the Pitscurry Project Gardens.  Those attending will also learn how to create a wild corner in their own garden and how to make a simple notebook from recycled paper.

Activities for younger people will include Pauline Cordiner’s storyteller sessions throughout the day and you can have your face painted as one of the characters to join in on the fun.

Garioch Day Services has undergone a transformation to bring them in to line with national policy and good practice principles.

The key principle for service delivery improvement is to shift the delivery of services for adults with disabilities from an exclusively buildings approach to mainstream community based opportunities for all.

The redesign of day services in Aberdeenshire is enabling many adults with learning disabilities to develop skills and have the opportunity to be involved in helping local community- based projects to thrive.
