Groups encouraged to apply to support from European funding programmes

Charities and community organisations are being urged to apply for funding from various European and Scottish Government funds that Aberdeenshire Council manages.

Aberdeenshire Council currently manages in the region of £11m of funding from the European Union and the Scottish Government. There are now guarantees in place to ensure that all funding commitments entered into prior to the UK leaving the EU will be met.

Project funding from the following programmes is available:

LEADER provides funding for projects supporting rural communities, businesses and farm diversification on themes such as community facilities; sustainable transport; the environment; and social inclusion.

The Fisheries Fund provides support for projects which support diversification, job creation, training and innovation in fishing communities and businesses.

The European Social Fund: provides grants to organisations which provide employability support to people facing multiple barriers to employment.

Councillor David Aitchison, chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, said: “The European programmes that we administer represent a valuable source of investment for innovative projects across our communities.

“The successful uptake and implementation of these programmes will provide support for communities and businesses in the short term, and will also strengthen our argument for the continuation of investment into the future”

Committee vice-chair Cllr Graeme Clark said: “There is European funding, which has been guaranteed, available to communities in Aberdeenshire and I would urge anyone that feels their business or project meets the criteria, to apply.

“Council officers are on hand to provide advice, guidance and support to applicants so that the application process is as easy as possible to understand and access.”

Further guidance on the programmes is available on the Aberdeenshire Council, LEADER and NESFLAG websites:
