B974 Cairn O’Mount Road closure for two weeks from Monday

The popular B974 Cairn O’Mount road between Deeside and the Mearns will be closed for two weeks for essential repairs from next Monday. (May 22)

It will be closed between the AA phone box north of Bridge of Dye and Hunters Hill, east of Fasque House, but the road will be open over the middle weekend of the closure.

A number of road repair works are to be carried out in the area now that the weather has improved and local teams have coordinated their approach to reduce the closure from a potential five week period.

Permanent patch road repairs will be carried out on both sides of the Cairn in advance of summer surface dressing works.

Following a vehicle impact to Spittalburn Bridge, lime mortar masonry repairs will be carried out to the parapet at the same time. These works mean a total of £150,000 will be invested in the local road infrastructure.

As well as the road resurfacing and bridge repairs, improvement work to the car park near the viewpoint at the top of the cairn will also be carried out.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Head of Roads, Landscape Services and Waste Management, Philip McKay, said: “We appreciate the signed diversion route will be lengthy and apologise for any inconvenience caused, but we will do everything possible to ensure that this essential work is carried out in the shortest possible timescale. We appreciate the co-operation of road users during this period.”

The diversion route is via the A957 Slug Road, with the closure in place to protect the safety of road users and the workforce on site.

The Clatterin’ Brig restaurant will be open as usual and access can be gained from Auchenblae on the C7K Drumtochty Glen road.

The road will be open during the weekend of May 27 and 28, but road users should take heed of signage on the route, warning of potential hazards such as ramped sections of road repairs.

Further information about road closures and restrictions in the area are available on Aberdeenshire Council’s website.
