Inspiring Aberdeenshire nominations extended

Nominations have been extended for Inspiring Aberdeenshire 2018.

The awards in June celebrate the very best of what makes Aberdeenshire great and promotes the unsung heroes.

Nominations will stay open until the end of February, giving an extra fortnight to get names in contention. In particular, organisers are looking for nominations the categories for young people (Aberdeenshire’s Future), environmental champions (Beautiful Aberdeenshire) and courageous residents (Local Hero). In these categories, some nominations have been received but it would be great to see more.

Inspiring at a glance:

·       Celebrating the outstanding work and achievements of individuals and groups across the area.

·       Nominate here.

·       160 guests will celebrate the finalists and winners in style at Haddo House on June 15 2018.

·       Since it started, more than 50 awards have been handed out.

·       Nominate and be in with a chance of winning a prize too.

As a thank you, everyone who puts in a completed nomination will be entered into a draw to win a three month family Active Aberdeenshire pass. This pass will give the winner and their family access to all Aberdeenshire Council swim and gym facilities, including classes.

Provost of Aberdeenshire, Cllr Bill Howatson, “Inspiring Aberdeenshire is a fantastic opportunity to see positive community spirit in action. There are some categories in which we would love to see more suggestions, as I am convinced that the good work is happening in our communities. I do not want that to go unrecognised.

“For the Young People category, do you know someone who has given up their own time to help others? Maybe they have beaten all the odds to do great things or maybe they are a role model for their fellow pupils?

“What about an environmental champion? We are looking for the range of nominations, from people championing community composting, to those people in our towns and villages planting flower beds or perhaps someone who arranges litter-picks.

“And we all know stories of courage. Some of them are people who have battled illness and raised awareness of their condition, young people who have taken a stand to prevent bullying. Perhaps it is someone who has spoken out on a difficult subject or addressed an injustice, often something which takes a great deal of courage. The examples of courage on a daily basis are vast and it is humbling to read about each and every one.”
