Are you thinking of adoption? Register now!

Our next Preparation to Adopt course runs in September at Aberdeenshire Council's Woodhill House headquarters on: Friday 14, Monday, 17, Friday, 21 and Friday, 28. Registration is now open on the course. We are looking for families for children, so if adoption is something you have been thinking about, now is the time to get in touch.

Nervous? Don't be! Please read what one of prospective adopters had to say about their experience:

"My partner and I had been thinking about adoption for a few years and after a year of living together we decided this was something we wanted to look into.  When we first registered our interest in Adoption, a social worker visited us at the house within a few weeks and gave us an overview of the process etc. and gathered some information from us.  Due to the timing of our interest we had to wait several months before we went on the Preparation for Adoption Training - to say we were nervous and apprehensive on day one would be an understatement!

"However all of the correspondence and contact we had with the Adoption team before the training was really helpful and they were just the same face to face.  They immediately made you feel at ease from the first instance and there was literature and examples of books etc. for us to look through before the training started and this also gave us the chance to meet and chat with the other couples on the training – it was a small group, so it felt like we all clicked quickly.

"The social work team who provided the training were amazing – their knowledge and experience knew no bounds and there wasn’t a question they couldn’t answer, and they were good at sharing their own personal experiences etc.  From the outset there was a general feeling of being in very safe hands.

"We would encourage anyone who has been considering adoption to take this step as it really does help you decide whether this is something you want to do or not, and if nothing else it gives you a real insight into how dedicated the Social Work team are within Aberdeenshire in keeping the local population of vulnerable children and families safe".
