Ideas sought for wheeled sports facility alternative

The public are being invited to have their say following the closure of a skate park in Turriff.

The skate park was shut following an inspection which identified issues with the wood and metal structures on the site.

A public meeting is being held to gauge interest from the community and to explore alternative options. The meeting will take place at 6:30pm on Wednesday, November 7 at the Gateway Centre, Victoria Terrace, Turriff.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: “We are keen for as many people as possible to come along and express their views on what they want to see happen.

“The council is interested in gauging support for a new community-led wheeled sports facility. We would encourage anyone who has alternative ideas to put them forward so they can be considered by council officers.”

The park, at the Haughs, was in place since 2004 but time took its toll on the ramps and other equipment to the point where its lifespan came to an end.
