Landfill is not on Council Christmas wish list this year arrangements for festive recycling and waste collections

Aberdeenshire Council hopes residents can help it make savings this Christmas by making better use of available recycling services, avoiding sending items to landfill unnecessarily.

Households create more waste at this time of year as a result of buying excess food, wrapping paper, cards and possibly even their Christmas tree.

Residents are encouraged to reuse leftover turkey and veggies, or to recycle them in their food caddies, collected from homes every week.

Most types of wrapping paper, cardboard, non-glittery Christmas cards, and many other items can all be put in residents’ blue-lidded kerbside bins, picked up fortnightly.

Many can be turned into new products, instead of rotting away for years in landfill.

Real Christmas trees and large items of cardboard packaging can be taken to recycling centres.

Festive recycling tips will be published on the council’s social media channels to help householders ensure they make the most of their Christmas materials.
