LEADER project helping to develop digital key skills in North Aberdeenshire
A LEADER-commissioned project is continuing to increase basic digital skills in rural Aberdeenshire areas.
The ‘Digital Key Skills’ initiative based at MACBI in Mintlaw is able to offer remote computer support for people who may be isolated at this time.
Although the project is no longer running face to face sessions in light of Covid-19, it can provide coaching by phone for vulnerable people who would benefit from increasing their skills to get online and connect digitally.
Digital Key Skills tutor Pauline Anderson can offer phone-based sessions so that people can use their own home-based IT equipment to keep in contact with others.
This is a service for digital beginners at a basic level and can focus on use of e-mail, use of skype, accessing the news and NHS online, connecting with family and friends and online shopping.
Flick Millar, European Programmes Coordinator for North Aberdeenshire LEADER, said: “This is an important project for the North Aberdeenshire LEADER programme, and although face to face sessions are not possible right now, getting connected digitally has never been more of a lifeline.
“Pauline is a great tutor and I would urge anyone who’s struggling to connect with family online, access news and information, or arrange grocery deliveries, especially if they’re shielding or self-isolating, to get in touch.”
