Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month: Education

As part of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month, Aberdeenshire Council is sharing information on a series of themes throughout June. This week: Education
 
It is recognised that achieving good education outcomes for Gypsy/Traveller children can be very challenging but the barriers to realising education potential must be recognised and addressed
 
Aberdeenshire Council has developed learning provision for children and young people from the Travelling Culture, based on a mixed model of delivery, where collaborative working and partnership working have been at the forefront of developing learning provision.
 
You’ll find some information and resources below where you can find out more about barriers to education, as well as some educational activities.
 
The Scottish Traveller Education Programme (STEP) website has a wealth of information, including an ‘alphabet of Traveller words’ throughout June.
 
Highlighting the barriers to education faced by Gypsy/Travellers, this short video by Traveller Movement highlights the experiences of young Gypsies and Travellers in London.
 
Educational publishing website twinkl has published activity sheets for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month, including an opportunity for you to design your own Romani wagon. You’ll need to create a free account if you’re not already signed-up.
