Flood alert and amber warning of rain issued for Grampian

A flood alert and amber warning of rain has been issued for the Grampian area for Saturday into Sunday (Oct 3-4, 2020).

Heavy and persistent rainfall could cause flooding and disruption to travel.

As a precaution, Aberdeenshire Council is erecting the temporary flood barriers in Stonehaven tomorrow morning. The Stonehaven Flood Scheme contractor will also be activating their flood response plan.

The Met Office is advising that homes and businesses across the region may be in danger of being flooded and there could be damage to some buildings.

Spray and flooding are likely to create hazardous driving conditions and rainfall could force the closure of some routes, there is a strong possibility that some communities may be cut off by flooded roads.

Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely and there may be power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

Aberdeenshire Council has an obligation to maintain roads and undertake certain emergency responses in the event of flooding but this does not extend to private property.

When flooding is forecast, residents and businesses should take steps to protect their own property from flooding.
