Saturday waste collection at Ballater cancelled

Aberdeenshire Council can confirm that a supplementary weekend non recyclable waste collection service at Ballater will remain suspended until further notice.

The Saturday collection point at Church Square car-park and roads depot on South Deeside Road in Ballater was suspended at the outbreak of Covid-19.

In an effort to resume recycling services to residents, seasonal garden waste points, including the one in Ballater, were resumed in June alongside with recycling centres, with additional measures in place to ensure the safety of customers and staff.

The suspension of the non-recyclable waste lorry in Ballater - and various other services across Aberdeenshire - enabled the council to focus on critical activities such as weekly recycling and waste collections.

Finite resources and different ways of working have meant that some of these services are yet to be reinstated.

Head of Roads, Landscape Services and Waste Management Philip McKay explained: “Council services which were suspended as a result of Covid-19 are being scrutinised to determine if they are vital and represent best value for money before they can be reinstated.

“We continue to face considerable pressures - both in terms of our budget and staffing resources – to continue providing critical activities such as household waste collections. Whilst it was possible to resume the seasonal garden waste collection point in Ballater to enable residents to recycle garden waste closer to home, having carefully reviewed the arrangements for Saturday non-recyclable waste collections, it was agreed that this particular service will not resume for the time being.

“Residents across Aberdeenshire can use the bulky uplift service and recycling centres for any non-recyclable waste that does not fit into their black bin at home.”

In addition to the regular weekly household waste collections, other waste services do remain available to Ballater residents such as:

Make a booking for the household recycle centre at Banchory at https://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/waste/recycling/book-recycling-centre-visit/

There is also Saturday garden waste collection point in Ballater at the Council’s Roads Depot on South Deeside Road, which is open 8am to 12noon and 12.30pm to 3pm until 31st October 2020.
