Political leadership changes at Aberdeenshire Council

At the meeting of Full Council today (Th 19 Nov), Cllr Jim Gifford stood down from his role as leader and a number of associated positions including chair of Business Services Committee. He remains an Aberdeenshire councillor.

He is replaced by Cllr Andy Kille, who will take up role as leader with immediate effect and will pick up other positions as outlined in the papers to committee.

In a speech to the chamber, Cllr Gifford described Aberdeenshire Council as “fantastic”, with an “enviable reputation for excellent working relationship between officers and members”.

Cllr Kille also spoke and described the role as a “great honour and huge responsibility” and said it was happening as part of a managed and smooth change.
