Free sessions on offer for Young Person's Guarantee Week

A range of activities are taking place this week to raise awareness of the Young Person’s Guarantee, designed to help 16-24-year-olds access employment, education, training, work experience and volunteering.

Officially launched in 2020, the Guarantee is a commitment to Scotland’s young people. Its focus is about connecting young people to appropriate opportunities, with activities overseen locally by the Aberdeenshire Employee Partnership.

The sessions have been organised as part of Young Person’s Guarantee Week, and are aimed at young people, parents and carers.

Activities are being offered by Skills Development Scotland, Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action, Values into Action Scotland, Elevator/Business Gateway, Barnardo’s Works, Robert Gordon University, and Aberdeenshire Council’s own Employment Support Team.

The events cover themes such as employment, volunteering, subject choices, internships, and business support, running until Friday, March 12.

Cllr Peter Argyle, chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, said: “Making sure our young people have access to the support they need to develop their skills and secure employment is a priority for us and many of our partner organisations, so I am pleased to see everybody coming together to offer this wide range of activities.”

Cllr Gillian Owen, chair of the council’s Education & Children’s Services Committee added: “The pandemic has undoubtedly been a worrying time for our young people, so I would encourage anybody interested in finding out more about opportunities available locally and the support that is available to sign up to any of the sessions that interest them.”

The free events can be booked via Eventbrite via http://bit.ly/YPGweek2021 or by searching for ‘Young Person’s Guarantee Week’. To register for individual sessions, please use the links under each description.
