Flooding update

4pm

It’s a positive picture across Aberdeenshire this afternoon with the Met Office’s Amber weather warning no longer covering Aberdeenshire. The Yellow warning is now due to end at 2am tomorrow (Thursday 29 July) morning.

SEPA (the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) is continuing to monitor watercourses and the SEPA flood alert remains in place, albeit the hope is that the greatest period of risk has now passed. Our teams continue to assess the situation and flood barriers deployed in Stonehaven will remain in place until at least tomorrow morning.

The vaccination clinic at Fraserburgh Community and Sports Centre has re-opened following earlier closure due to flooding but the rest of the centre remains closed to visitors for the moment.

Some pockets of high-intensity rainfall will continue across Aberdeenshire and anyone with travel plans is urged to take extra care.

10:15am:

Further to the Amber Weather Warning which was in place across Moray and Inverness being extended to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, our teams have been working through the small hours of this morning to assess the potential impact and put mitigations in place.

Flood barriers were deployed in Stonehaven where local teams continue to link in closely with SEPA (the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) who have a flooding alert in place for the area. Water levels on the River Carron have now peaked and an update will be provided when further advice is shared.

Motorists across the North-east are encouraged to drive carefully as surface water continues to make many of our roads, particularly in the most rural areas, treacherous. Roads may be impassable in some areas and it is advisable not to attempt to drive or walk through flooded areas.

The heavy rain is currently tracking northwards through Aberdeenshire.
