'Children were happy, assured and confident'

Inspectors have praised the nurturing relationships between staff and children at Drumblade School Nursery.

The Care Inspectorate rated Drumblade Nursery as “very good” for quality of care and support, quality of environment, quality of staffing and “good” for quality of management and leadership following an inspection in December last year.

The report said: “We saw that children were happy, assured and confident. They had clearly formed positive and nurturing relationships with staff, that helped them feel cared for and safe. We saw that children spent significant periods playing together that supported co-operation and self-regulation.”

Inspectors said they were satisfied appropriate infection control measures are in place to support a safe environment for children. Examples include children being supported to wash their hands well, good ventilation and outdoor activities.

The inspection also acknowledged a child protection policy is in place and staff understood child protection issues and procedures following training, contributing to the safeguarding of children. Documentation was also in place to support the safe management of medication.

The nursery’s premises, equipment and furnishings were also praised in the report for being well maintained, clean and free from hazards. Staff had completed first aid training and accidents and incidents were being recorded appropriately and the information shared with parents and carers, a process which helped create a relationship of respect and trust.

Cllr Gillian Owen, Aberdeenshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Committee chair, said: “Congratulations to everyone at Drumblade Nursery on a great inspection. It is fantastic that inspectors observed that the children were happy, assured, and confident during their visit. I am pleased inspectors also acknowledged the close and nurturing relationship between staff and children as well as the safety measures in place. These are all hallmarks of a well-run nursery.”

Committee vice chair Cllr Rosemary Bruce added: “Well done everyone at Drumblade Nursery! It is great to read all the positive comments from parents and carers who have completed a questionnaire as part of the inspection. It’s lovely to see the staff, parents and carers, and the children are all collaborating so harmoniously.”
