Lord Lieutenant guest of honour at school garden party

Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire Alexander Manson gave pupils at St Fergus School a fascinating insight into his role when he attended a garden party marking Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Peterhead school garden party on Wednesday, June 1, also saw pupils thoroughly entertained by a selection of music, dancing, and games. There was a special Queen-themed treasure hunt too.

St Fergus School Head Teacher Avril Sutherland said: “It was a privilege to welcome the Lord Lieutenant Alexander Manson to St Fergus School. The children were very excited about this really special event. We wanted to make the occasion especially memorable so each pupil has received a commemorative coin as a souvenir of this special event.”

Pauline Robertson, Head Teacher of St Fergus School, added: “On Wednesday, March 16, we were delighted to welcome The Deputy Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire The Hon Katharine Nicolson to plant trees as part of Her Majesty’s Green Canopy initiative in recognition of her Platinum Jubilee.

“It was very pleasing to continue the celebrations during the garden party with the Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire Alexander Manson present on this occasion. The pupils have really enjoyed learning about the Monarchy and The Queen as well as joining in the festivities across the nation.”

Several Green Canopy tree planting ceremonies have already taken place across Aberdeenshire to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The focal point of the national celebrations was over the Platinum Jubilee weekend with an extended Bank Holiday from Thursday, June 2, to Sunday, June 5.
