Site of a stone circle, possibly a four-poster. J. R. Allen noted in 1881 that about circa 146 m to the west of and lower down the hill from the stones (see NO33NW0007) marked on the 1st edition OS map as 'Stone (Remains of Druidical Altar)', was a further group of four stones, two standing and two prostrate. Three of these formed a triangle 4.7 m x 4.7 m x 1.9 m. One stone measured 1.2 m x 0.6 m x 0.3 m, a second 1.2 m x 0.56 m x 0.2 m and the third 1.5 m x 0.6 m x 0.45 m. This latter was prostrate and had 7 cups on its upper face varying from 380-760 mm in diameter. Two cups had a single ring and there was a connecting groove between two others. All stones were of orange sandstone. It is possible that these stones were the 'Christianised' (removal or toppling of one stone results in three upright stones, which allows trinitarian imagery) remains of a Four-Poster. No traces of these stones were found during OS investigation in 1967, but at the spot indicated was a heap of field clearance stones which may have hidden them. The vertical aerial photograph overlay on the GIS at the Angus HER, images taken circa 2002, has several features within the area noted by Allen. One, which casts a substantial shadow, may be a stone from this circle, there appear to be remains of field clearance near this feature and there are also possible features to the north-east however these would need a site visit before any conclusions about the possible survival of the stone circle.
