Details Dovecot, and possible site of predecessor, Jervise notes that a conical dovecot at Auchterhouse was mentioned in circa 1682. The present, rectangular, dovecot dates from the 17th century, so the conical dovecot may have been replaced by this one, or it may also have been incorrectly described as conical at this time, or Jervise may have been describing a second dovecot. On the 1st edition OS map (1860), there is a circular structure shown to the South of the house (NO 33143 37260) that is not annotated, and is no longer shown on the 2nd edition (1900), or subsequent, OS maps. The present dovecot is rectangular, measuring circa 8.0 m x 4.5 m (26 feet x 15 feet), and is a two-chamber lectern-type dovecot, typical of the lectern-type dovecots seen in Scotland in the 17th-18th century. It is situated to the East of Auchterhouse Mansion house (NO33NW0031). It is constructed from rubble masonry with margined angles, and a graded stone roof with dormered flight entries. There is a rat course to the rear, which is stepped at the sides. The roof slopes down to the South elevation. There are two entrance doorways to the South elevation, with margined and rebated surrounds. In this elevation there is also a recess for an armorial panel, but the armorial stone has been removed, probably to the Mansion House. Inside, as seen in 2011, there is a near complete set of stone slab nesting boxes lining the walls.
