Remains of a Castle, probably from the 16th century and an icehouse built in the late-18th or early-19th century. The castle was owned by the Crichtons in 1510, but in 1790 it was pulled down and the present mansion built (NO34NW0009). It is depicted as the remains of Ruthven Castle on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. It has since been much altered and converted to a garden store. The upstanding remains comprise of a small two-storey D-plan tower with a vaulted basement, set within the walled garden a short distance north-west of Ruthven Mansion. The tower measures 6.2 metres north-south by 5.4 metres transversely (20 feet x 18 feet). There are large horizontal gun-loops on three sides with a small blocked rectangular window, and a slit embrasure in the east wall. An icehouse lies to the north, on the north side of a track. It is category C listed, and is a square vaulted underground chamber with tunnel access.
