Gate lodge to the South of Cortachy Castle (NO35NE0001), dated 1889. It is a baronial gatehouse, constructed of red ashlar. It has an arched pend within a square tower covering the road, with a round corner tower to the South-East corner, and flanking wings to the East and West. The pointed archway is gated with a dummy portcullis and iron yet, and is surmounted by a crow-stepped hoodmould containing a heraldic plaque at the apex for the Earls of Airlie, under a monogram with 'MA', for Mabell, Countess of Airlie. The tower is surmounted by a corbelled crenelated parapet, surrounding a flat roof. The corner tower has three stages, the ground and first floors are delineated by a string course, and the top course widens above continuous corbelling. It has a conical roof with fish-scale slates, and an apex finial. The flanking wings are single-storey, and have crow-stepped gable ends and end stacks to the Western wing. The Eastern wing has a crow-stepped gabled bay at its Eastern end, projecting North. There are walls with arrow slits continuing from the ends of the wings at wallhead height.
