Details Early 19th century farmstead group comprising of a farmhouse, a cattle court, and a horse-mill. On the 1st edition OS map, the steading is shown as an L-plan range, with a wing oriented northwest/southeast, that has a smaller extension projecting from the southeast end and a curved extension projecting from the northwest end. The other wing is oriented northeast/southwest, with both wings joining at the north. To the rear (northeast) of the steading is an enclosure, and within the open court area to the south of the L-plan are two smaller rectangular buildings, oriented northwest/southeast, joined by a curving wall. There are two smaller buildings shown to the southeast of them. The farmhouse is to the east of the steading, and is shown as an L-plan house oriented east/west, with a wing projecting north from the western end. There is a small rectangular building directly to the south from the western end, and another to the northwest. The 2nd edition OS map shows no major changes to the steading or farmhouse, however, apart from the two small buildings connected by a curved wall within the steading court, all the other smaller outbuildings have gone. The western of the two smaller court buildings now also has a wall from its northwest end, projecting to the northeast. Presently, the steading wing that was oriented northwest/southeast has gone. The other wing remains, but has had a short wing added to the southeast end that is projecting northwest, creating an L-plan building. There is an L-plan building where the western of the two court buildings was, oriented northeast/southwest, with a wing projecting southeast from the southwestern end. There is now a small square building directly to the northeast of this building, and another rectangular building to the north, against the northeastern end of the main steading wing. The farmhouse remains, but it has been extended to the east, and also to the west where with another wing projecting north has been added, creating a rough U-plan building, open to the north. There is a modern rectangular building to the northwest of the house, roughly in the same place as the one shown on the 1st edition OS map. There is a new modern house, Esk House, built to the south of the steading. The steading buildings are from the early-19th century, and are rubble-built, with slate roofs. There is a door lintel dated possibly 1807, and an extension was built in 1969. The horse-mill was restored in 1960, but since fell into disrepair. The farmhouse is a small single-storey building, with a harled exterior and a slated roof. It was built in the mid-19th century, with a later dormered attic. Inside, the sitting room has painted shutters and cupboard door panels by Lionell Bethall, 1859.
