Details Remains of a township. On the 1st edition OS map it is shown as two buildings with an attached rectangular enclosure and three enclosures, two of which are labelled as sheepfolds. On the 2nd edition OS map a further enclosure is shown abutting the northern of the sheepfolds. The remains, comprising at least fifteen buildings and enclosures, were recorded by Headland Archaeology during a survey of the Balnaboth Estate in 1998. The buildings range in size from 5.5m x 3m to 8m x 4m externally over either stony banks or walls between 0.8m and 1m wide and standing up to 0.5m in height. The corners of one building are rounded, whilst there are two oval buildings as well as a possible oval platform. Four of the buildings have a small D-shaped enclosure built against their south walls whilst two have small pens attached to their west ends. There are two enclosures set amongst the buildings. A watching brief was carried out by Scotia Archaeology in October-November 2020 during groundworks for poles for a new overhead electricity line across part of the site between NO 30198 67863 and NO 30488 67734. No archaeological features or artefacts were observed in the excavated trenches
